Gross pay = regular hours × base rate + overtime hours × base rate × multiplier.
How to use this overtime calculator
Provide regular hours, overtime hours, hourly pay and the employer-specific overtime multiplier. This is a pay arithmetic tool, not a legal eligibility check.
Formula and calculation method
Gross pay = regular hours × base rate + overtime hours × base rate × multiplier.
Worked example
If an employee has 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours paid at 1.5 times their usual rate, overtime contributes 7.5 base-rate hour equivalents.
Understanding the result
Overtime premium pay is distinct from simply working additional hours. The multiplier tells the model how much to pay for each eligible hour relative to the base rate. A different multiplier changes gross overtime income directly.
When to use this calculator
Do not assume that crossing a certain daily or weekly threshold automatically qualifies for overtime. Eligibility, exemptions and the definition of a workweek depend on applicable rules and contracts.
What the results do not include
Overtime rules vary by jurisdiction, role, workweek and employment contract. Check applicable rules.
