Kilograms to Stones & Pounds
Use this separate tool when you need a result such as 11 st 0.3236 lb, rather than decimal stones. Edit either side to convert in both directions.
1 stone = 14 pounds. Remaining pounds are displayed to six decimal places. Mixed-format output is approximate because it is rounded for readability.
How to Use the Weight Converter
Choose any supported unit in the From and To dropdowns to convert between metric and imperial or US customary mass units. The result updates as you type, with no separate page needed for each conversion pair.
Enter your number
Type a weight or mass measurement into either field. Decimal numbers and scientific notation are supported.
Choose the units
Select kilograms, pounds, grams or another unit. Use Swap or a popular conversion shortcut to change direction.

Weight Conversion Formula
To convert between units of mass, multiply the original number by the conversion factor. Each unit in this tool has a fixed equivalent in kilograms. For example, the international avoirdupois pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms, and one metric tonne is exactly 1,000 kilograms.
General formula
Converted value = Starting value × (kg per starting unit ÷ kg per destination unit)Example using your selected units
5 kilograms × 2.20462262185 ≈ 11.0231131092 pounds.
Everyday example: To convert 10 pounds to kilograms, calculate 10 × 0.45359237 = 4.5359237 kg.
A conversion changes the number and unit, not the amount being measured. A smaller unit such as a gram generally produces a larger numerical value than a larger unit such as a kilogram.
Weight Conversion Table
This table automatically updates to match the units selected above. Compare familiar values such as 1, 5, 10 and 100 without typing each one individually.

Weight Units and Their Kilogram Equivalents
For everyday use, people often say “weight” when referring to mass. The kilograms, pounds, grams and other units in this calculator measure mass, not force. Weight as a force is measured in newtons.
| Unit | Symbol | Equivalent in kilograms |
|---|---|---|
| Kilogram | kg | 1 kg |
| Pound (avoirdupois) | lb | 0.45359237 kg |
| Gram | g | 0.001 kg |
| Ounce (avoirdupois) | oz | 0.028349523125 kg |
| Stone | st | 6.35029318 kg |
| Metric tonne | t | 1,000 kg |
| Milligram | mg | 0.000001 kg |
| Carat (metric) | ct | 0.0002 kg |
| Microgram | µg | 0.000000001 kg |
What is the difference between pounds and stones?
One stone is exactly 14 pounds, so a measurement of 10 stone is 140 pounds. The main converter displays decimal stones (such as 10.5 st); the mixed converter above displays stones plus remaining pounds (10 st 7 lb).
Is a metric tonne the same as a US ton?
No. A metric tonne (t) is 1,000 kilograms. A US short ton is 2,000 pounds, while a British long ton is 2,240 pounds. This converter specifically uses metric tonnes to avoid mixing those definitions.
Are carats and ounces interchangeable?
They can be converted mathematically, but they are used for different purposes. A metric carat is 0.2 grams and is commonly used for gemstones. The ounce here is the standard avoirdupois ounce, not a troy ounce used for precious metals.
Conversion Accuracy and Rounding
The calculator uses fixed metric definitions of its supported units. It calculates conversions with JavaScript numeric arithmetic and rounds results for readable display. This is suitable for everyday estimates and checking standard unit relationships, but displayed digits do not improve the accuracy of the original measurement.
For shipping labels, manufacturing specifications, laboratory work or regulated measurements, use the required unit convention and appropriate significant figures. Check whether a document means ordinary avoirdupois ounces, troy ounces, short tons or metric tonnes before relying on a result.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many weight conversions does this tool support?
The calculator supports 9 units and 72 possible directions between different units. You can also select the same unit on both sides. A separate mixed converter supports kilograms and stones plus pounds.
How many pounds are in one kilogram?
One kilogram is approximately 2.20462262185 pounds. Select Kilograms and Pounds to convert any other amount.
How do I convert pounds to kilograms?
Multiply pounds by 0.45359237. For example, 10 pounds equals exactly 4.5359237 kilograms.
How many ounces are in one pound?
There are exactly 16 avoirdupois ounces in one avoirdupois pound. For instance, 2 pounds equals 32 ounces.
How many pounds are in one stone?
One stone equals exactly 14 pounds. For a mixed result, use the Stones & Pounds panel above rather than decimal stones.
Can I enter stones and pounds together?
Yes. In the mixed converter, enter a stone amount and the remaining pounds, or enter kilograms to have the two fields filled automatically.
What’s the difference between a metric tonne and a ton?
A metric tonne equals 1,000 kg. A US short ton equals 2,000 lb and a British long ton equals 2,240 lb. This tool uses metric tonnes only.
Can I convert milligrams and micrograms?
Yes. One milligram equals exactly 1,000 micrograms. Choose either unit in the dropdowns and use scientific notation for very small quantities if needed.
